I tend to get a bit wordy myself so I know what you mean about length, but if that's what it takes to tell your story, go ahead. I go back to edit quite a bit just to take out miscellaneous thoughts and unneeded words and it's always surprising that I can say what I want without them. I'm glad you are enjoying what you started out to do.
