What a good read! Learned about your culture/history and got to peek in on your family life as well. Had to chuckle about Antek and the lighter... he’s the brother that caused the mark on the floor, correct? (Smile) thanks so much for sharing!!!

Lovely traditions and I am so glad you are taking the opportunity to talk to your older relatives about family history and traditions. With everyone moving away from the old home towns, it is so easy to lose a family's history.

I enjoyed your post. Very similar to Chilean’s traditions. On November 1st it’s All Saints and November 2nd The Day of the Dead ( Día de los Muertos). Halloween has started to be celebrated, but mainly due to Hollywood influence. In my country people take flowers and also do some weeding and cleaning up the graves of their loved one who had passed. My mom never went thar day, because she didn’t like crowds. But we would go on another day when possible. My mother decided she didn’t want a grave, she didn’t want to force people to go to “visit” her. Following her wishes her body was cremated and her ashes were spread in the Pacific Ocean in a particular beach she loved. Every time I go to the Pacific Ocean, no matter where I’m at, I feel the connection with my mother.

Lovely traditions, Max. I enjoyed your story as I am fascinated with old cemeteries, but where I live in mid-America, graves only go back to the early 1840s but those are unusual to find. Most graves in cemeteries don't start until the 1860s. I have many ancestors, relatives and my parents buried in cemeteries 100 miles away so we only get there once a year now. My uncle who made sure everyone got flowers on Memorial Day died this past year so hopefully one of my cousins will take over the remembrance circuit. Thanks for sharing! lt's always very interesting to learn about life in another country.
